According to $4.12.3 of the Java Language Specification, there are eight types of variables.
- Class Variable
- A static field, or a field within an interface.
- Instance Variable
- A non-static field within a class.
- Array Component
- The values associated within a created array.
- Method Parameter
- A parameter located within a method declaration.
- Constructor Parameter
- A parameter located within a constructor declaration.
- Lambda Parameter
- A parameter declared as part of a lambda expression.
- Exception Parameter
- A parameter created within a catch clause.
- Local Variables
- A variable declared within a block.
